Youth Education Through Sports Tanzania

Youth Education Through Sports Tanzania (YES TZ) is a non-governmental organization with its headquarters in Mbeya region, was established in 2010 and got registered in January 2011 in Tanzania under NGO Act 2002, registration number 00NGO/00004325.
YES TZ complements government efforts by contributing to the implementation of various policies and hence brings development to the citizens.
Our primary focus is on young people. We aims at empowering them by giving them proper guidance and skills to face the many challenges faced by young people.

The formation of YES TZ was inspired by among other factors; by availability of large number of young people who are underutilized, understanding of young people’s needs, and aspirations, understanding of the potential sports have when it comes to bringing social change in communities and country at large, the Tanzania Youth Development Policy, MKUKUTA and MDGs now SDGs, Tanzania development vision 2025, the realities currently facing young people (youth unemployment, apathy, corruption and declining leadership) and experience gained through working with youth in various youth led organizations national and International.

YES TZ places special focus on adolescent girls and young women (AGYW). Girls and women carry more than babies. Or water. They carry families. They carry businesses. They carry potential. And when we invest in their health, rights, and wellbeing, it creates a positive ripple effect that lifts up entire countries.

Give girls and women access to healthcare, they will deliver more resilient families. Give girls and women the chance to learn, they will deliver stronger economies. Give girls and women opportunities, they will deliver solutions

We work to empower youth through sports, so that they can
meaningfully contribute to their own sustainable development and that of their societies.

A society whereby youth have equal opportunity and use their potentials for sustainable development.

Our Strategy

Our strategy for achieving our objective is edutainment, using sports for both recreation and development. We use sports activities to provide a forum where by young people openly talk about issues that concern them in an informal set up and still have fun, build self-confidence, self-awareness and assertiveness in girls. Sports games include health talks and relate to real life situations, e.g. HIV messaging and life skills, sports also promote young people’s social responsibility within their communities. When girls participate in sports they have the power to change their lives. Sports make girls more confident, healthy and empowered.
