
SAfA Project: Enhancing Livelihood Prospect for Young People in Tanzania(May 2023 to April 2027)
The project has been implemented by DSW-Tanzania, HRNS, and KHUNE FOUNDATION through funding from SAfA and BMZ. It has a primary target of 50,000 youth, with at least 50% female, in Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Mbeya, and Songwe regions.
The overall objective of the project is Over 50,000 youth, of which at least 50% are female, in Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Mbeya and Songwe regions have improved health, education, income and wellbeing.


o 65% of the targeted young people report having accessed youth-friendly and gender-sensitive SRHR services
o 50% of female youth club members report that they have used modern contraceptive methods in the last six months.
o 60% of health facilities in the project regions report that they offer youth-friendly and gender-sensitive SRHR services that meet national standards for AYSRH.
o 70% of female youth club members report making informed decisions on their SRHR by the end of the project.
Achieved Milestones;
- Over 2400 youth (59% women) received awareness of SRHR gender-responsive services, youth-friendly, and GBV, building their capacity in making informed choices concerning their Reproductive health
- 10 Health Service Providers from the project health facilities were trained on Sign Language and provision of youth-friendly services that meet national standards for AYSRH
- 8400 modern family contraceptive methods, specifically condoms, were distributed to youth aged 15-30 in the project site.
- 20 NPA VAWC Committee Members and 20 gender champions from project wards were engaged in the project activities, including the dissemination of GBV messages to the community, and participation in radio and TV Talk shows
- Over 5000 people received awareness of SRHR gender responsive services and GBV through radio and TV programs in the Mbeya region
- 450 youth (51% women) tracked in referrals and linkages supported by the project
- 2000 IEC Materials, including brochures, fliers, and posters carrying project messages on SRHR gender responsive services and GBV, were distributed to the youth in the Mbeya City Council
- Participated in regional and international events and forums, including Tanzania Youth Development Forum, International Women’s Day, International Youth Day, and Day of the African Child. In these forums, youth were actively engaged to demonstrate their skills and knowledge of SRHR and GBV.
